This was so cool to watch. I can't explain how neat it was to see him shedding his skin like this. I'm not sure what kind of grasshopper this is but you can see in the photo he does have what looks like wings.
We found this little guy about a year ago hanging out on the sago palm in our back yard. When they were small there were close to 20 of them that stayed in a pack and traveled around the yard. As they get bigger they either spread out or most of them don't survive. This one was having a tough time, you can see one of his legs came off and is stuck in the leaf below him. He didn't last long after this photo was taken. We found him on the ground a few days later.
Luckily they're back again this year. We've seen a couple of large ones hanging around. Mostly in the stalks of corn.
